Modern Martyrs

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ~ Matthew 5:10

In recent times Christian missionaries and nationals have died side by side in China, the Middle East, Africa, and other areas of the world.

There has probably been more persecution of Christians today than ever before in the history of the church. There have been grievous periods of persecution at various epochs but they have generally been localized. Now, however there is persecution throughout the world.

There are Christian people who are being bitterly and actively persecuted at this very moment in many countries of the world. Who knows, before long we may experience something of it ourselves? Then this verse would turn out to be the most important verse in your life and mine.

Let Down Your Nets
There is no exclusion put upon any tribe or clan, no classes are laid under ban, no individuals are exempted. Therefore, Church of Christ, by the love you bear to your crucified Master, by His wounds and death for you, and by His living love to you, seek out the lost and gather together the outcasts. You fishers of men, launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught. You sowers of holy seed, go abroad, and sow the untrodden wastes. You consecrated builders, break away from old foundations, and lay fresh groundwork for a larger temple for your God and King. Surely the Spirit of love in a church will suggest this.
